Critical Density in a Fire Spread Model with Varied Environmental Conditions

چکیده

Small changes in spatial pattern on a landscape can sometimes produce dramatic ecological responses. Such transition ranges are associated with critical environmental conditions such as tree density. As the landscape becomes dissected into smaller patches of trees, landscape connectivity may suddenly become disrupted, which may have important consequences for the behaviors of forest fire, i.e., how it spreads. Landscape connectivity depends not only on the tree density but also many other environmental conditions such as land height, flammability, and wind conditions. To determine how the critical densities are affected by the changes in these conditions, we developed a fire spread simulation model that takes into account some major environmental factors that influence fire growth. By varying these variables under controlled conditions, this research aims to show how varied environmental conditions affect the critical density, and hence influence the spread and growth of fire.

Crisis Management in Forest Fire by use of Image Landsat in Model Fire Risk (Case Study: Bioreh Protected Area, Illam Province)

Forest fire brings forest destruction as an important part of human environments, air pollution, and the loss of wealth and facilities, and endangers the lives of human beings in the vicinity of the forest. It is one of the examples of natural crises and is considered to be a crisis management. Identifying the effective factors in the occurrence of fire and hazard zoning is one of the basic too...

WRF-Fire: Coupled Weather–Wildland Fire Modeling with the Weather Research and Forecasting Model

A wildland fire-behavior module, named WRF-Fire, was integrated into the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) public domain numerical weather prediction model. The fire module is a surface firebehavior model that is two-way coupled with the atmospheric model. Near-surface winds from the atmosphericmodel are interpolated to a finer fire grid and are used, with fuel properties and local terrain...

Integrating Fire Suppression into a DEVS Cellular Forest Fire Spread Model

This paper deals with modeling and simulation of surface forest fire spread and suppression using the discrete event system specification (DEVS) cellspace approach. The event-based modeling approach allows for timely simulation-based predictions of forest fire spread and suppression in uniform and non-uniform environmental conditions. This paper proposes a conceptual model for a coupled forest ...

Development of a Model System to Predict Wildfire Behaviour in Pine Plantations

We describe the development of a model system for the prediction over the full range in fire behaviour in exotic pine plantation fuel types in relation to environmental conditions. The proposed system integrates a series of sub-models describing surface fire characteristics and crowning potential properties (e.g., onset of crowning, type of crown fire and associated rate of spread). The main in...

Resolving vorticity-driven lateral fire spread using the WRF-Fire coupled atmosphere–fire numerical model

Vorticity-driven lateral fire spread (VLS) is a form of dynamic fire behaviour, during which a wildland fire spreads rapidly across a steep leeward slope in a direction approximately transverse to the background winds. VLS is often accompanied by a downwind extension of the active flaming region and intense pyro-convection. In this study, the WRF-Fire (WRF stands for Weather Research and Foreca...
